We have visited Edinburgh many times over the years, yet somehow this wonderful Scottish city always manages to surprise us with something new to discover. There is something special about wandering its historic streets, soaking up the atmosphere and turning a corner to find a place we haven’t noticed before. On this visit, we enjoyed exploring Grassmarket, one of Edinburgh’s most characterful and historic areas, tucked beneath the impressive backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. With its colourful shopfronts, inviting cafés, traditional pubs and fascinating history, it is a lovely place to stop, have a wander and take in the surroundings. Even in a city we know so well, there are always hidden corners, interesting little shops and unexpected sights waiting to be discovered. That is part of the joy of returning to Edinburgh time and time again — familiar enough to feel like an old friend, yet full of new experiences that make every visit special.
